Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at support@staindaddy.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

This is the most common asked question in the industry and has a lot of different guides and information out there. At StainDaddy we try to not advertise exact wait periods with the exception of pressure treated materials. We do advise that any pine material treated wait a minimum of one summer season or longer to expel moisture and sap. One good rule of thumb if you plan on staining yourself, is to sprinkle some water onto the wood in the area with the highest moisture content (shady). If it beads up or does not soak in within a minute or two, it is not ready. Different types of wood require different applications as well. If you stain too early, you’ve wasted a little time and money. If you stain too late you’ve wasted a lot of time and money. StainDaddy will provide electronic moisture detection to determine the appropriate time, products, and application procedures that are suited for your wooden structures.

This question you will find is one that has historical debate and has since made big industries lots of money over the years. We are going to keep it simple and say that early and aggressive staining with high trans-oxide, high-quality, and oil-based stains, is the gold standard for exterior wood care. Water-based products do have their advantages when it comes to high moisture areas or older woods and are used when appropriate. Water-based reapplication and maintenance is normally much more labor intensive than oil-based products. Request a free virtual estimate and let StainDaddy take the guess work out of making you outdoor structures beautiful and strong for years to come!

At StainDaddy we strive to preserve the natural look of wood the best we can. With that being said, there are several variables that needed to be assessed: the age of the wood, moisture, and UV exposure. Let StainDaddy perform a free virtual estimate and help you decide what is best for your wood!
